Private Insurance Plan Options

 Advantage Plans

Are “all in one” alternatives to Original Medicare. PPOs & HMOs are the most popular Advantage Plans. These “bundled” plans include Part A, Part B, and usually Part D.  These plans may have co-pays and other out of pocket costs. Most plans offer extra benefits Original Medicare doesn’t cover — like dental, vision, hearing, over the counter (OTC) products, fitness memberships and more.

Plans have yearly contracts with Medicare and must follow Medicare’s coverage rules. Each Medicare Advantage Plan can charge different out-of-pocket costs. Premiums are as low as $0 per month.

Medigap Plans

Help fill "gaps" in Original Medicare. Original Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. A Medigap (Medicare Supplement) policy can help pay some of the remaining health care costs, like: Copayments, Coinsurances & Deductibles. Medigap Plans do not provide Part D (prescription) coverage or additional Non-Medicare covered benefits.

Due to health reasons, coverage can be denied or premium increased (except initial eligibility). All plans have a monthly premium, varies by coverage.

Prescription Plans

Can vary in cost and specific drugs covered, however must give at least a standard level of coverage set by Medicare. Medicare drug coverage includes generic and brand-name drugs. Plans can vary the list of prescription drugs they cover (called a formulary) and how they place drugs into different "tiers" on their formularies. How much you pay for each drug depends on which plan you choose. Plans have different monthly premiums. You can have this plan on it’s own or combine with a Medigap plan.

Prescription coverage can be included in Advantage Plans; added as a separate “stand-alone” plan with Medigap Plans; added as a “stand-alone” plan with Original Medicare. “Stand-alone” plans have premiums. Premiums will vary with different plans.
